Throughout my career in fashion which is coming up to twenty years, I have never been happy with the fast fashion industry and have never wanted to play a part in it. After graduating from University my goal has always been to work for small independent, which I did for some time. I spent nearly seven years at a brand called Kevan Jon and whilst I was there my boss Kevan taught me everything, not just about pattern cutting and clothing construction but also how to run a business. Without his input my brand wouldn’t exist and once I left Kevan’s that’s when Violet Flamingo was born.

Violet Flamingo has been in business since 2011 and I’ve created such a variety of garments over the past nine years. From bespoke bridal gowns, to beautiful kimono style cover ups and simple accessories to brighten up a look. Whenever I create a garment I want to use the highest quality materials and ensure it’s beautifully manufactured with a perfect finish, I want to ensure that piece will still look fabulous in years to come.

After my initial eight weeks off in the first lockdown I went back to work and was creating new made to order styles every two weeks, which I shared with my clients on Facebook Lives and in my newly built Etsy store. As 2020 came to an end I had made the decision to slow down, my brand has always been about creating high quality and conscious slow fashion and that’s what I want to get back to.

2020 was a strange year for all of us and with the fear of businesses closing as we all slowed down a bit, I pushed myself even harder. A large part of my business was creating the bespoke garments for weddings and occasions, which due to Covid all events like this had been cancelled.

It’s given me huge satisfaction creating bespoke pieces for my individual clients and my made to order garments, but I’m at a point where I can’t keep this up on my own.

Now is the time to make some changes in my business, I’ll still be in control of all of the designing and pattern cutting but I will be getting help with my production. I’ll be purchasing fabrics and trims from my UK suppliers and using digital printers who are also in Greater Manchester. My products will remain 100% UK made and I will continue to have my same high standards working alongside my new manufacturers.

This is a whole new way of working and I’m very excited to make a start, but most of all I can’t wait to share the new brand with you,
